Betfred League One Round Up | Round 5

The Betfred League One sides were in action on Sunday, with four ties taking place in Round 5…

Keighley Cougars came excruciatingly close to their first victory of the 2025 season but couldn’t quite overcome Swinton Lions.

The Cougars were leading until four minutes to go when Aaron Lynch broke the hearts of the home crowd to snatch victory for Swinton and secure back-to-back wins.

Whitehaven continued to rack up the points to go second in the table – following another huge victory in Round 5 – and their fourth win in a row.

Haven enjoyed a 66-point haul over Newcastle Thunder on Sunday afternoon, with ten different try scorers and a total of eleven tries.

Fullback Jordan Burns also a 100% success rate with the boot, converting all eleven of his side’s goals.

There were two victorious Cumbrian sides this weekend, as a high-scoring affair unfolded between Rochdale and Workington.

Town returned to winning ways after forging a second half comeback against the Hornets with four tries, including three quickfire scores in closing stages to see out a win.

Between the 66th and 73rd minute, Caine Barnes, Jamie Doran and Dave Eccleston all impressively crossed to cement a sensational victory.

Finally, league leaders Midlands Hurricanes remain the only unbeaten team in the competition after a convincing home win against Dewsbury.

The Hurricanes are high flying in 2025 after a strong off-season recruitment drive and carry on their upward trajectory.
